Where did it go?

If you’re a frequent visitor to this blog, you’ll notice that the Personal Writing Challenge page is gone. Why is that? Well, I’ve decided to keep my writing journey separate from this website. Blogging about my writing keeps me honest, but not everyone is interested in reading about my writing woes. LOL. Due to this back injury I may become a full time writer far quicker than I’d intended so this means a higher focus than before.

So if you want to follow along I’ll be at http://dawnmontgomerywrites.wordpress.com/. Holly Lisle has a wonderful continuous word challenge going on and I’ll be updating on her blog as well as the writing one. This blog will be all about characters, releases, the history of this book or that world I’d built, etc.

There will be a few more changes coming over the holiday. More to come on that later. :)

Great News!

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Hey guys! Great news on the writing front.

  • Sex and Chocolate: Decadence will go audio! I love the story and can’t wait to hear how it sounds in audiobook. :)
  • Holiday Howlz: Werewolf Woes comes out in a little over a week! WOOHOO! Don’t forget about the Changeling Press holiday special. For every Holiday Howlz you buy you’ll be entered to win free Changeling titles for a year! That’s right…not pick and choose, but you’ll be on the release distro list. How awesome is that??? The name will be randomly drawn during our Changeling New Year’s bash and at $2.99 a title, it’s a bargain!
  • Speaking of bargains…seven of my titles are available for purchase at fictionwise for an incredible 30% off!! Grab your pre-holiday deals now! *edited to add, two other titles: Babes in Toyland II and Masquerade anthologies are also available at fictionwise!

NaNoWriMo is a bust for me this year, but I have made incredible headway in a new series. So for those Wrimos still kicking butt out there, you’ve got my support! I’m gonna cheer from the sidelines this year. :)

Day 1

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

NaNoWriMo has begun. Sweet! I love it when NaNo starts on a Sunday! So far so good!

Favorite lines of the day (unedited rough draft! I reserve the right to come back and change these later! LOL):

Cheyenne rocked back on her heels and blew him a kiss.

His laughter ran over her like a warm embrace. She turned her back on him and jumped over the rail to land softly on the lower catwalk. Her lips lifted in a smile and she shook her head at her own antagonizing behavior.

She needed to get the hell off this station, and fast, before she did some other reckless thing.

Countdown begins…

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Three hours and counting until NaNoWriMo’s launch. This year is a little different for me than the years before for several reasons.

  1. My family and I are geographically separated. They’re halfway across the world from me and I’m missing them like crazy. My wonderful husband is doing his best to hold down the fort but we’re all feeling the edge of separation during this holiday season.
  2. With the exception of Kim and Lexxie, my other writing partners are not NaNo-ing this year. There are a ton of ladies at the Romance Divas who ARE in NaNo and that’s encouraging, but the word wars and challenges are going to be fewer and far between. To tell you the truth, I don’t know what I’d do without my two amigas. They really keep me going.
  3. I’m writing two novels. 100K by the 30th of November. Yeah. That’s right. I’m crazy. So this word marathon I’m on…anyone else have the feeling I’ll need a straight jacket when it’s all said and done?

But I’ll make it. I’ll tear that word count up b/c ultimately, the only one stopping me from achieving success is… Me. See you later, wonderful readers, I’ve got to get my write on. :)

7 + days

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

There are now seven days and some-odd hours remaining before NaNoWriMo begins. My days are hectic as I try to get all other projects done before NaNo launch. I’ve got two projects planned for this year’s NaNo. The 50K novel is entitled Feral Intent and is the launch of a brand new series.

For my candy story I have a novella planned. Nothing else about that yet as it’s a multi-author series and I don’t want to say anything that could spill information ahead of time. So what about you? Do you have anything planned yet? Or are you skipping NaNo this year?

National Novel Writing Month is coming up soon. My awesome crit partner, Kim Knox, always has this cool thing she does before she starts her NaNo wip…she creates a button or two to keep her motivated.

Her images are fabulous and hilarious. You should definitely check them out on her blog. This year I decided I’d do the same thing…only I’d create an image that captures the heat/imagery I imagine for my NaNo wip.

Tell me what you think. ;)

A question of timing

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Today a tweet caught my eye. Alison Kent posted a question about whether or not you were overindulging in social networking. In a guest blog post at Sia McKye’s Thoughts Over Coffee (a blog you should check out over your cuppa joe in the morning) she talked about the effects of social networking and information overload on your writing capacity. When is too much, too much?

Since I’ve moved here for my day job, I’ve felt isolated. Even more than I’d ever imagined. The internet has become my way to talk to people. My connection with my family, my home, my friends. The relationships with my writing partners haven’t changed. We just see each other more (or less) often depending on where they currently reside.

The emails I get from fans I try to reply to in as little as 24 hours. My editors and publishing houses have all communicated to me through email so there is no change in the way I’m doing business there.

No. What’s happened is that I’ve become obsessed with blog hopping, twitter feeds, and facebook applications LOL. I’ve let them carve little patches in my writing time until all I have left is minutes a day to get my words down on paper. With the deadlines I’ve set for myself, that’s not acceptable.

So, I’m now refocusing my time. I’ll post what I’m up to and when, still give you news and come to chats. I love dropping in on them anyway, it makes for spontaneously good time!

So bear with me as I rework my balance. :)

Today I blogged over at the League of Amazing Writers about writing my heart out. Check it out here.

Decadence is in the Bag

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Sex and Chocolate: Decadence is now turned in to my editor. Holiday Howlz: Werewolf Woes is right behind it. I love writing holiday stories.

My transition here was a rough adjustment (and nightmare trip over four days long in airport after airport). It took about a week for me to start writing again, but it’s coming along. For those who are curious, I have a few up and coming books.

  1. Solar Skies was bought by Liquid Silver Books! YAY. More info to come on that later.
  2. Sex and Chocolate: Decadence will release from Changeling Press.
  3. Eros Lost is getting a revamp and release from Aspen Mountain Press.
  4. Christmas Belle is being released as a standalone this year from Aspen Mountain Press.
  5. Holiday Howlz: Werewolf Woes releases in December with Changeling. Oh yes, this will be fun.
  6. The Beast is set to release, right here, in two weeks. Yay for a free read!

That’s all I want to talk about for now, since several other projects are in negotiation at the moment. As soon as I get dates, you’ll see it here first! Have a good one, all.

Excerpt Monday: Decadence

Monday, August 10th, 2009

excerptmondayDecadence came around as a “what if” idea. What if I had a vampire who loved everything about her new “unlife” except for one thing…her inability to eat chocolate b/c of a newly developed allergy. Oh the lengths she’ll go to get her chocolate back! I loved the characters. It’s a wickedly fun romance.

Excerpt Monday

Blurb:

The un-Life sucks when you’re the only female vampire in the world allergic to chocolate…

When a warlock with a penchant for kitchen magic comes to town, however, things take a delicious and sinful turn. Especially when he puts himself on the menu.

Chocolate goes well with…everything.

Coming Soon

“I don’t work with vampires.” There was that smoky gleam in his eye and the way his pulse kicked again. What was going on inside that gorgeous head of his?

“You seem to be working fine with me.”

Humor lightened his expression. “I killed you within the first hour of meeting you.”

I waved my hand. “These things happen. The chocolate was good though.”

He grinned. “Good enough to try again?”

My stomach turned. “Can we wait? I’m not in a hurry to die again so soon.” I ran a fingernail along his jaw line. The light scrape of his stubble tickled. My mind instantly jumped to all the wicked places he could nibble on. The additional friction might just drive me to the end of sanity.

“What else did you have in mind?”

I ran my tongue against my teeth. The sharp edge of my fangs usually stopped me from doing anything I might regret. But there was just something about Ryan that threw all my well-meaning intentions out the window.

His gaze dropped to my mouth and it was all I could to keep from dragging him to me. A nibble wouldn’t hurt. Just a taste. I wanted to rub my legs together to ease pressure building in my clit. My mouth watered at the thought of his flesh, his blood.

“If you don’t stop looking at me like that, I’m going to do something we both might regret.” It was the last bit of warning I could give.

“Look at you like what?”

I smiled, showing him my fangs. “Like you want to eat me.”

He blinked slowly and a sexy smile tugged at his lips. “I like your choice in words.”

I didn’t fang out like most of my brethren but I was definitely getting there. “My appetites are a bit more feral after a sudden undeath.” I clenched my fists until my nails tore into my palms.

“You seem perfectly restrained to me.”

I had the sudden image of me tied to a bed pop in my head. My pussy creamed at the thought. “While you restraining me does sound tempting, let’s try something else, instead.” Would I regret this decision? Fuck it. He’d already killed me once. That brought a smile to my lips.

I hooked a finger in his shirt and dragged him close.  My lips nipped at his, a teasing touch, nothing more. I tasted an interesting mix of flavors I’d never imagined. Some of my kind called warlocks addicting. A quick flick of my tongue told me they were right. He was delicious.

He moved forward until my head pressed against the headboard. His hands gently cupped my face and I couldn’t stop the little flip in my stomach over it. Ryan’s kiss deepened. He stoked fires deep inside my pussy until I ached all over for his touch. I like a good kisser. He was damn good.

I slid my hands under his shirt to feel the smooth skin of his back with my palms. He undid buttons as we went so I could reach more of him. Fingernails scraped over his shoulders to his chest. He nipped at my lips and I nipped back.

I raked my fingernails over his nipples and he moaned. His scent enveloped me, surrounded me until all I could taste and feel was Ryan.

His mouth left mine to press heated kisses along my jaw and to my neck. I arched against him when his teeth scraped against the curve of my throat. Little shocks of pleasure coursed through my nerve endings. His fingers began working magic of their own, weaving teasing caresses along my bare skin. My nipples grew hard and ached for his touch. My skin grew hypersensitive to the point of painful.

His teeth raked against my shoulder and I shivered. I could taste his blood in the air, his heat. My fangs elongated. He would be so delicious. I ran my fingers through his hair and tugged just enough to drag his mouth back to mine. Kissing when I’m all fanged out is difficult in most situations. The razor edges of my extended fangs were the bane of my existence. Ryan took the worry from me by taking control of the kiss. Small nibbles on my lips followed by teasing swipes of his tongue against mine had me shaking. Oh yes, he was good.

My clothes slipped from my body as though by magic, but I put it more to Ryan’s skill of seduction than any use of his warlock power. Hot lips and teeth scorched my skin with incredible attention to my most sensitive spots.

He took a nipple in his mouth and sucked hard, flicking it with his tongue in sweet torture. Arcs of pleasure sizzled along my nerves to my pussy. I slid a finger along my wet slit, drawing slow circles to increase the heat a notch or two. His tongue found the curve of my hip and I clenched my jaw to keep some semblance of control.

His fingers slid between us and caressed mine increasing the pressure of self-pleasure until I wanted to beg for his touch instead of mine. A thick finger slid into my pussy, followed by another, and another until I was stretched full. I moaned and turned my head into the pillow to keep from screaming. He was hitting all the right spots, stroking deep then shallow until sweat formed all over my body. My fingers spread my folds wide, giving him deeper access. He rotated his fingers and I arched.

“Is this what you want?” His mouth scalded my skin down my lower abdomen.

He thrust again and I gasped. “Yes. Please.” I could feel the edge, the pressure building, until I wanted to scream for the ache of it. A flick of his fingers sent me into orgasm. I whimpered softly, letting it slide through my body.

“This is just the beginning. Just a taste of things to come.”

I hope you liked it :)
