It’s the return of WICKED WEDNESDAYS! When we last left our heroine, Angel, she was drugged by a tall, dark stranger in her garage at LAW headquarters. What wickedness has she fallen into today? Read on to find out! If you missed the first two entries, click on the hyperlinks below to catch up!
Part Three of Angel in the Search for the Star Sapphire
The low whine of an air conditioner trickled in to her senses, pulling her away from a darkness so absolute it bordered on coma. It reminded her of other times, long ago.
“Too much to drink?” The croak of her own voice should have soothed, instead her head began to pound like a sledgehammer against her temples.
She moaned and tried to roll but her arms were held fast.
Angel jerked her eyes open, thankful the headache didn’t increase.
She was tied. To a bed. It had been some time since her night had been that wild. Her head ached something fierce and she’d do just about anything to moisten the dryness of her throat.
How did I get here?
Memories of her last moments in the garage rushed through her mind. Shit. Fear followed immediately by rage roiled through her gut. Some superheroine you turned out to be. Getting caught like a rookie and all for a pretty face. One she wanted to smash into the pavement if she saw him again.
She eyed her surroundings. Hotel. One she doubted had insulated walls. She could scream. Maybe someone would come running. No visible cameras, so that was a plus. The extremely small ones were a possibility, but she doubted her captor went to the trouble. The curtains were drawn so she couldn’t tell where they were but the air tasted salty. LAW headquarters didn’t reside next to a beach, so she was likely not in the local area.
Angel snorted. Smart man to get her away from the ladies. Once they found out she was missing, they’d tear apart the walls of Hell to find her.
She arched her back to eye the binds. Simple enough. Her fears took a back seat at the challenge of a puzzle. This was comfortable, something she could do. If she wiggled too much, the ropes would tighten and that would just be…uncomfortable.
Smart man to keep her arms apart, though. Had she had her wrists tied together she’d already be done and out of here.
Her fingers tugged at the ropes until a piece loosened. She hyperfocused on that one piece of freedom, tugging bit by bit, careful to keep her wrist as still as possible. Her other arm was forgotten while she worked.
In Angel’s mind time ceased to exist. Just the puzzle. She tugged and worked and slowly, bit by bit, the ties fell away until she was free!
She rolled over and untied her other wrist, wincing at the pins and needles sensation racing up and down her fingertips. Too much longer and she’d have been out a hand.
She wrapped the ropes and slipped the loops over her head and arm so they hung diagonally across her chest. A good rope was hard to come by.
She opened the bedroom door and jerked to a stop.
Dark and handsome jackass was sitting, relaxed as you please, in a nice comfy chair.
“Well that took longer than I’d expected.”
She wanted to punch him.
To be continued…
If you missed last week’s Wicked Wednesday, you missed the start of Angel’s story, my persona from LAW. Please note that this is just a fun free read and I hope you have a great time with it. All content is © Dawn Montgomery. Enjoy! Let me know what you think in comments.
Part Two of Angel in the Search for the Star Sapphire
“I don’t take orders well.” His arms crossed and she tried not to drool at stretch of material across his chest.
No amount of sexy could make her leave the ladies of LAW, and if he represented anything from her past, that meant someone was going to try. “You don’t take hints well, either, I noticed. Get out of my shop.” She dropped back on the crawler and slid back under the truck.
In a split second an iron grip wrapped around her ankle and pulled her back out. She glared at the now annoyingly smug face of her would-be proposition slinger.
“I’m not sure if I like the way you’re gripping that wrench.”
“Oh? And how would that be?”
“Like you want to hit me with it.”
She kicked his shin and he jumped back in surprise furiously rubbing his shin where she’d connected. The burn on his cheeks told her his pride had been slapped. “I’m not friendly, sweetheart. Take your sexy ass out of here and go play with someone else more your type.”
He dropped to a crouch and took off his glasses. “I don’t need friendly, Angel. I need you.”
Oooh, that got her motor revved just the tiniest bit. If only he’d say that too her in a much more compromising situation, complete with the wicked smile he sported.
“What are we looking for?”
“Accept the terms and then we’ll talk.”
She laughed. This had gone on long enough. “Ramses, initiate intr–”
His arm blurred in speed and she felt a sharp prick of pain in her neck. Her vision darkened almost instantly and she pawed at her throat. A thin metal object fell into her palm and she stared at it without comprehension.
“Yes, Angel?” The cultured voice of her security system echoed in the room. She needed to…to. What did she need to do, again? Her body fell back. She groaned, wondering why it didn’t hurt to fall.
“You’ll feel a little sleepy now.”
In his arms? How? Her thoughts grew cloudy. His eyes were so beautiful. Beautiful.
“I’ll take you to the hotel where you’ll be briefed.” He touched her face and she turned into it.
Pretty eyes. So tired. I’m so sleepy.
“I didn’t want it to be like this.”
Her eyelids felt so heavy. She closed them for just a second…
Plummeting temperatures (which I like), frigid rain (not a fan) and a dog who refuses to go outside to do his business when he gets cold (which is driving me INSANE) is an odd mix of another dreary Wednesday.
So, in honor of hump day blahs, I’m going to post a little something to cheer you all up. LOL I hope. Welcome to Wicked Wednesdays, a free read/naughty excerpt day on my blog. We’ll start off this week with an introduction to Angel, my LAW persona.
So without further ado…Welcome to:
Angel of LAW stars in the Search for the Star Sapphire
Part One
“Stupid piece of crap!” Clanks echoed from beneath the front end of an old ford pickup truck. The body had been in great shape but the rest was shit and Angel cursed the impulse that had her buy the damned thing.
She caressed the underside of the truck. Being a member of LAW was one of the most rewarding experiences in her life. No more having to prove herself over and over. There wasn’t anyone vying for her position. The ladies just let her do her mechanical whiz thing without stomping on her creativity. And left her to do her own thing, like Frankenstein this piece of shit.
The truck died. “Dammit! What’s wrong with you now?” She already had to replace the brake lines. The satellite radio from the bench blasted the latest Disturbed hit. Angel sighed, sliding from beneath on her wheeled creeper. She really needed to look into a hydraulic lift. A creeper was nice for small jobs, but replacing the brake lines was going to be a bitch. She needed more head room.
A soft cough drew her attention. Angel sat up, making sure she had enough clearance. Her head still hurt from yesterday’s slam.
She looked up and pulled up short. Standing before her was one of the most delicious men she’d seen in a long time. All starch and impatience. Dark hair, narrowed eyes behind wire-rimmed glasses , a white button-up across broad shoulders, and leaning against the far wall. Her very dirty wall. He’d have a dirty ass on those gorgeous khakis when he left. She smiled, bringing her knee up. She threw her arm over her leg in a lazy pose. Oh, that pissed him off. She tossed her red hair. “You don’t look like one of Rhae’s pets. What can I do for you?”
He cleared his throat and gave a tight smile. “Pets?” His eyebrows rose in a surprise. “I’m no pet, sweetheart, but I need your help.” He crossed his arms over his chest. “I’ve been told you’re the one I have to see.”
Really? How interesting. Angel smiled. “Again, what can I do for you?”
“They tell me you’re good at solving puzzles.”
Angel raised an eyebrow. “Did they also tell you I don’t like visitors?”
His smile had an edge of danger she’d come to expect from her old life and, despite herself, a jolt of excitement shot down her spine.

Hello everyone! I’ve got a new free read available. This link is to the PDF version. If you’d like a link to the html, check out my free read’s section for more. Click on the rose image above for a quick link to the story.
So without further ado, check out Super Heat, available now at Changeling Press’s monthly ezine.
Jeanne Barrack, one of my LAW sisters, is having a birthday flash fiction birthday bash! This means a bunch of authors get together and post 250 word or less hot stories (some of them are serial…so the heat goes on and on…). She’s having her party at the Silver Expressions Blog, home of Liquid Silver Books authors. And let me tell you, the stories are HOT.
I adore Jeanne and wish her the very very best birthday ever!
The Joyfully Reviewed crew has a hunt on! You can find out all the det’s HERE. So go forth and play!

I’m out of deadline. Spaceport:Bounty is edited and in the bag (in the can if it were a movie LOL). In celebration I am pouring myself a glass of wine and letting the stress of the past two weeks drain out of my body. Tomorrow I’ll be tackling my Rookery Cove novella: Rookery Cove: Ocean’s Call.
I’d like to get this one in under deadline. Very under. There’s a lot of work involved with a multi-author series. You not only have your own world and character building, but those of everyone else who came before and will continue after you. I love it, though. Five multi-author series contracts are set for ‘08 and ‘09 and I’m considering taking on two more. The LSB Terran Realm series is just fantastic as well as the EC space hunters series. I love sci fi, as you all know. LOL.
If you’re interested, I have a free read up now. Romance Junkies has released the new list of free-to-read stories from author volunteers. Let me introduce you to Loyalty’s Price.
I picked up this rose image off of 123rf.com and loved it. So every time I have a free read, I’ll post the image with a link to the page. Have an awesome weekend.
Welcome to Spaceport, where all your needs are met. But don’t expect it to be easy. This friday’s flash is an introduction to my characters from Spaceport: Bounty. Alexis and Mack. Hot delicious sex ahead. You’ve been warned.
