The Ice Storm Cometh

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

And since it’s frigid in Texas (what’s up with that???) and the entire city is shut down, I’m writing about a frigid north on a far away planet. This is what I call a candy piece (a piece I write, just for fun as a reward for making my daily writing goal on a scheduled project. It usually has no home and is an in the mist project.) So, just to tempt you, here is the beginning to my working title: Ice Planet. Enjoy.

Yesterday was my birthday…

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I’m now 30. :) Still a young pup according to some and old to others. For me, I feel just right. My 30’s is a great time to get everything together. Set up my future, hunker down and get to writing, finishing up my weight loss, and learning as much as I can as quickly as I can. I’m a knowledge sponge so this is the greatest adventure of all.

A lot of writing things have come around. Several fabulous reviews, nominations for multiple awards (and winning a few of those), new writing adventures, and a new publisher are just a few of the things that have happened since I last blogged.

I’m not sure where to start, but I’ll update a bit at a time until all my back news is gone.

On the release front, both the Masquerade Anthology and the Worth Every Risk Anthology are due out within the next six weeks. I can’t wait to show you Masquerade’s coverart. It’s just gorgeous.

My birthday was, as a whole, uneventful. I’ve mastered (or been mastered by) the Nintendo Wii. LOL. We had to order Chinese food after a thrice dinner disaster, and for the first time in a very long time, I’m writing again. :) 2K in one day and all before 6:30am. I love days like this.

I’ve updated the personal writing challenge page with my new goals for the year. I’ll do end of month summaries and quarterly round ups to keep track. :)

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

I have been writing the free read for the past week so I can post several snippets at once on Wednesday. :)

This month, so far, has been an insane ride, and I hope to tell you all about it one day. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Are you setting goals for 2009?

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Today I posted at Aspen Mountain Press on setting writing goals for the new year. I’ve decided to set up my new Personal Writing Challenge for quarterly goals and results. It keeps me honest and forces me to be accountable more often so I’ll be less likely to procrastinate.

My writing goals: 1200-1400 words a day, submit to one publisher a month (novellas, of course), and complete one novel next year.  *WEG* What about you guys? Any goals for 2009?

Reflecting…

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

It’s the new year here in Texas. I will miss parts of 2008, but I’m happy to see it go. Tonight I wandered down the street a bit in a long heavy coat and fleece PJ’s and watched fireworks for the last time in this neighborhood. By the time another huge fireworks display is started around here I’ll be on my way to another chapter in my life.

Forgive me for reflecting, but I noticed a few things tonight that sent my mind wandering. My grandmother used to say “You can’t fix them who doesn’t have a mind to be fixed.” Which is to say, if someone is hell bent on doing things their way, let them. Give advice, if you have to, but leave them be. Giving advice has always been, in my experience, a double edged sword. If things go great, then wonderful, but if they go bad now there’s a target for their disappointment. But I digress…

Life is funny, and not always in a good way. Right now because of the impending move, my family goes through bouts of happiness and sorrow. Some days I feel like I’m holding everything together with scotch tape and a prayer and I’m doing it all by myself LOL. I’m thankful for my crit partners and my friends. My family keeps me going and I’m thankful for the lessons learned in life.

So this is a blog about my writing life…and I’ve shot off into a bit too much seriousness.

What’s up for me in 2009? Lots of books, several free reads, and quarterly goals. 1400 words a day is my writing goal…starting in the am when I wake up. I’ve enjoyed having you here for 2008 and hope to travel 2009 with you as well.

Happy New Year.
